Can my baby have this soup?
Our soup is a family-friendly meal that two moms on our team have been serving to their kids since they were 1 year old. However, please always check with your pediatrician to ensure it’s appropriate for your little one(s).
Are you certified gluten-free?
No, our product is not gluten-free. It contains soy sauce, which includes wheat and therefore gluten. Aside from the soy sauce, there are no other gluten-containing ingredients in the product.
How much sodium in this seaweed soup bone broth based?
Our seaweed soup contains 310 mg of sodium per serving, which is 13% of the Daily Value (DV). For context, the FDA defines "high sodium" as 20% DV or more (480 mg+). At 310 mg, our soup stays well under that limit and actually meets the FDA's strict criteria for a "healthy" sodium level in individual food items.
In comparison, many traditional canned soups or restaurant broths often contain between 800 mg and 1,200 mg of sodium.
A portion of the sodium in our soup occurs naturally from the mineral-rich environment where our seaweed is harvested. By leaning into the natural umami (savory flavor) of the seaweed, we provide a deep, satisfying taste without the excessive salt levels found in many prepared foods. You’re enjoying a nutrient-dense superfood that is high in fiber, iodine, and contains vitamin K and omega-3 that fits easily into a healthy lifestyle.
All about the seaweed in OMA
Is this organic seaweed?
Seaweed is the most natural and sustainable superfood from the ocean as it doesn’t require any fertilizers and pesticides. However, we haven’t yet received the organic credentials in the U.S.
Where does OMA source the seaweed?
We have partnered with a seaweed farm from Korea, known as the No.1 high-quality seaweed supplier. Since seaweed is a key ingredient in many Korean dishes, the clean waters and shallow water levels create ideal environments for cultivating seaweed.
What species of seaweed do you use and why?
In our seaweed soup, we use Miyeok, a type of brown seaweed also known as Wakame. It’s a staple in Korean cuisine, loved for its satiny texture and naturally subtle umami flavor from the ocean.
Are you testing for heavy metals in Seaweed?
Our seaweed is consistently analyzed for heavy metals and pathogenic microorganisms by an independent, third-party testing agency to ensure our product is completely clean and safe for consumption.
Is seaweed safe to eat every day?
Yes, in moderate amounts—its nutrient density supports daily wellness. As always, we recommend checking with your doctor if you have any concerns.
Why is seaweed important for new mothers?
It replenishes minerals lost during childbirth and supports recovery naturally, might promote lactation.
How does seaweed help the environment?
It absorbs CO₂, restores marine habitats, and grows without soil, freshwater or chemicals.
How many cubes can I enjoy each day?
Feel free to enjoy 2-3 cubes a day as part of your routine! Since everybody is different, remember that moderation is key. If you have any questions about how they fit into your diet, your healthcare provider is always your best resource.
Is Seaweed Soup safe during pregnancy?
Congratulations on your new journey! Seaweed soup is safe and also a nutrient-dense choice for pregnancy. Known traditionally as a restorative meal, seaweed acts as nature’s own multivitamin, providing essential support for both you and your baby.
- Digestion & Hydration: Its unique mineral content helps maintain electrolyte balance, while the natural fiber provides gentle support for common pregnancy-related digestive issues.
- Immune Foundation: The unique polysaccharides in seaweed support a healthy gut microbiome, helping to lay the groundwork for your baby’s future immune system.
- Brain & Thyroid Support: Fetal brain development relies on thyroid hormones, which require iodine. Since pregnancy increases your iodine demand by nearly 50%, seaweed serves as a natural, efficient source of this critical mineral.
- Essential Cellular Growth: Seaweed is packed with Iron (to support blood volume), Calcium (for fetal bone development), and Folate (vital for early development).
